The Camayan Islands, an enchanting trio tucked in the Western Caribbean, is complete with everything you’d want in a summer destination—crystalline waters, coral sands, and an effervescent underwater world. Tourists and locals alike love to flock to its shores for sand, sun, and sea.  But if you’re looking to make the most of your trip here, there are even more experiences here far beyond the usual tourist attractions and activities. Nature, food, or simply in search of tranquility? The Cayman Islands offer wonderfully unique adventures if you look a little deeper. Here’s a complete guide to discovering these hidden gems.

1. Glow with the Bioluminescent Bays

Only a few natural phenomena are as mesmerizing as bioluminescence. It is as if the ocean is lighting up or infused with stardust!

Bioluminescent Bay in Grand Cayman is one of the very few places in the world (12 to be exact) where you can experience it. Here, waters light up with the luminous blue-green glow of tiny organisms, called dinoflagellates at night. You can either snorkel to see it up close or take a kayak tour to paddle your way through.

2. Explore the East End

Everyone loves Grand Cayman’s Seven Mile Beach! But its unspoiled counterpart, East End, is equally as beautiful. Get a glimpse into the quieter side of Cayman Life, where roads are less traveled and life moves at a gentler place. Drive its coastline and find its quaint sleepy villages where locals will be happy to greet you!

For a taste of authentic Caymanian cuisine, make sure to stop at local favorites like Grape Tree Café and Big Tree BBQ. These casual spots are perfect for enjoying dishes like conch stew or cassava cake while soaking in coastal views. Add Vivine’s Kitchen to your list for some home-style cooking right in her own backyard, and if you're in the mood for fresh seafood, check out Eagle Ray’s Dive Bar & Grill, where the ocean views are as spectacular as the food.

3. Go to the Crystal Caves

On the north side of Grand Caymans lies one of the island’s natural wonders: the Crystal Caves. These ancient caverns took millions of years in the making and will offer you an immersive experience into the earth's geological history. The stalactites inside hang from the ceiling, much like chandeliers, and stalagmites rise from the ground.

During a guided tour, you will get to see the cave’s underground lakes up close, with waters so clear you can see the limestone formations beneath the surface.

4. Hiking to Cayman Brac’s Bluff

If you’re up for an adventure off the beaten path, Cayman Brac is a standout with its impressive limestone cliff, The Bluff, which runs the length of the island. It's perfect for a day of climbing or hiking with epic sea views as your reward. It does, however, require a flight to get there, so it's a bit of a trek but totally worth the effort.

For a closer option, the Mastic Trail on Grand Cayman is a must-try. It winds through one of the last remaining tropical hardwood forests in the Caribbean and holds amazing history as an old fruit-transport route. Plus, the nearby Botanical Garden is a chill spot to wander and spot some local wildlife.

5. Stingray Brewery

Stingray Brewery is an especially local twist to Cayman’s culinary scene. This locally brewed craft beer is inspired by the Cayman’s marine life. A visit to the brewery itself will give you an intimate look at the whole brewing process, from hop selection to their experimentation with flavors. This would be a refreshing detour from the island’s typical rum culture. If you're looking to explore further, 1981 Brewery stands out as the top pick on the island.

6. Private Culinary Class

If food is your culture-opening gateway, then a private cooking class with a Caymanian chef is something you must try. Instead of simply tasting food, you can see how it is prepared from start to finish. Gather fresh local ingredients, work with a chef in an open kitchen, and leave with recipes and stories that will last a lifetime.

7. Stay at your own private Caribbean estate

If you’re looking for something intimate, then look no further than Kempa Kai— the pinnacle of private vacation experiences. This brand-new beachfront villa takes vacationing to another level.
